Lightbridge Academy

Originally called Rainbow Academy, the school opened its doors in 1997. Guy Falzarano and his family founded it. They changed the name to Lightbridge Academy in 2014. They offer infant to kindergarten programs and has child care franchises in other states like New York, Delaware, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Florida among others.

Mastro Montessori Academy

In 1968, Mary and Vincent Guarriello founded the Vincent S. Mastro Montessori Academy. The school changed ownership in 1989 when Elizabeth and Michael Bradbury assumed ownership of the school. The school celebrated its 50th anniversary this 2018. Mastro Montessori offers toddler to elementary school programs. The Association of Montessori Internationale (AMI) has granted MMA the highest recognition status, making it the only Montessori school in Monmouth County to receive such AMI status.

Leapfrog Learning Center

The center offers prekindergarten to kindergarten classes. It has been in business for 24 years and boasts a 6:1 student-teacher ratio. It uses a theme-based curriculum to teach children the skills they need for their next school.

Creative Learning Center

This progressive preschool offers kindergarten to first-grade programs. It has been in operation for 30 years and uses the highly acclaimed Bank Street Graduate School philosophy in its teaching programs.

Shrewsbury Borough School District

Shrewsbury Borough has only one public school, namely, the Shrewsbury Borough School District. The community public school is known to serve students from pre-kindergarten to eighth grade. It is located off Broad Street on Obre Place near the borough’s center. The New Jersey Department of Education classifies the school district to be in the District Factor Group I. The District Factor Group measures the socioeconomic status of the local district, with the highest to lowest rank being J, I, GH, FG, DE, CD, B, and A. Therefore, the Shrewsbury Borough School District is categorized as the second highest of the eight groupings.

As of 2018, there are 509 students enrolled in the school. For the 2015-16 school year, the elementary school placed in the top 10 percent of all schools in the state with regards to their overall test scores. They also placed in the top five percent in math proficiency and the top 20 percent in reading proficiency. Seventy-eight percent of students from this school also achieve proficiency in Math, which is higher than the 40 percent average of New Jersey. On the other hand, 75 percent of students achieved proficiency in Reading/Language Arts, higher than the state average of 50 percent.

The student-teacher ratio in this school is 11 to 1. Majority of the students are also White, with minority enrollment accounting for five percent of the student body. Around 2.4 percent of the minority are Hispanic. The school also has various clubs and after-school programs such as the Leaders Club, which is comprised of the entire eighth-grade class.

Once the public school students finish eighth grade, students typically go to the Red Bank Regional High School in neighboring Red Bank. This school also serves Little Silver and Red Bank Boroughs. It offers 19 advanced placement courses in mathematics, English, computer technology, art, foreign languages, music, history, and the sciences.

Shrewsbury also has many other specialty schools in the area. There’s the Techconnection, a computer training school in Haddon Avenue. Imagine Tomorrow Computer Classes is a computer training school for kids. There are also schools that teach dance and music such as the Little Rockers-AppleJams Music and Arts Play Center, Jersey Shore Dance Academy, Starfish Dance Studio, USA Ballroom, Coastal Pointe Dance Company, and the Empire Dance Center. The Phoenix Way is a school that teaches martial arts while the Le Petit Chef is a culinary school.
